Ambulatory Services & Emergency Care

Ambulatory Services

There’s no place like home…. Sometimes! Our fully-stocked trucks are ready for action 24 hours per day to come to your farm to care for your horse. Most of our equipment is portable and we can do the majority of examinations and procedures on your farm.

Physical examinations, prepurchase examinations and most lameness diagnostics and treatments can be done at home. You and your horse may be more relaxed at home. Some lameness and performance examinations are best done at a facility where the horse can be observed doing his job such as running barrels and jumping.

Dental care including extractions, most surgical procedures and preventative health care can be done at home. We offer total care to farms within a 45 mile radius and specialty care to farms within a 100 mile radius.

Emergency Care

There is nothing worse than that helpless feeling of watching your horse bleed or roll on the ground in pain. Our ambulatory veterinarians are available around the clock to give your horse the care he needs, whatever the problem may be.

During office hours, our receptionists will dispatch the veterinarian who can arrive most quickly to assess and treat your horse. At night and on weekends your telephone call will go directly to the doctor on duty, not some answering service that doesn’t understand what the word colic means to a horse owner.

Here are a few conditions that should never wait until tomorrow;

  • Colic
  • Lacerations
  • Active Bleeding
  • Choke
  • Eye Injuries
  • Dystocia (Difficult birth)
  • Retained Placenta
  • Foals that cannot stand and nurse
  • Fever
  • Non weight-bearing lameness
  • Difficult Breathing

Anytime you are not sure if your horse should be seen on an emergency basis please call.

In the event of an emergency remain calm, please state your name and location clearly and stay off the telephone so that we may call you back. Within a few minutes, you will receive a call from one of our veterinarians who can begin to help you. If you have an emergency and would like to reach one of our staff, please call (478) 825-1981
