Prepurchase Exams
Buying a new horse is an exciting time and often requires a substantial investment. You’ve worked hard for your money and we want to make sure that your money is well spent. We start with the health history of the horse. CGES veterinarians will examine your new prospect from nose to tail. Our prepurchase examination includes a comprehensive physical examination, comprehensive lameness evaluation, conformation analysis, respiratory examination, ophthalmic examination and oral examination.
The prepurchase examination takes approximately one hour to complete. A rider with tack is required for horses that will be ridden. Specific concerns of the prospective owner are addressed with close attention paid to the intended use of the horse. Radiographs, blood work, drug screens, endoscopy, ultrasound and breeding soundness exams are additional components often recommended by our veterinarians or requested by prospective owners. Please allow additional time for radiographs and supplemental testing.
A comprehensive report will be sent at the completion of the examination. Radiographs and ultrasound images are digital and can be sent to a consulting veterinarian as requested.
