“I have never been happier than when I am at work. When we have a sick horse come in, and it goes home healthy, it makes all the sleepless nights and hard work worth it.”
Michalla Hayes grew up in Dayton, Tennessee. As a child she showed a tremendous interest in animals of all shapes and sizes, her family included three dogs and five cats! Michalla became interested in horses when a close friend invited her to go horseback riding. While she never had a horse of her own, being around them was always her favorite pastime.
Michalla earned her associates degree at North Florida College in Madison, Florida. While in college she learned many life skills while working at a convenience store in town. After getting married to Paul Hayes and becoming a military wife, the couple moved to Warner Robins, Georgia.
When we arrived, I heard about Central Georgia Equine Services and decided to put in an application. Michalla joined the Barn Crew staff at CGES where she excelled in consistently delivering excellent care to our patients. She impressed us all with her upbeat personality and gentle demeanor and was quickly offered a veterinary assistant position.
Michalla recalls “Starting off was challenging but well worth it. I have decided that I want to have this job as a career and earn my veterinary tech license through a local college. Since working at CGES, I have learned so much – from colic to lameness exams, dentals and what blood work can teach us. While breeding season is our busiest time of year, it is also my favorite. I have never been happier than when I am at work. When we have a sick horse come in, and it goes home healthy, it makes all the sleepless nights and hard work worth it. I am very proud to work here, and hope to be here for a long time.”
When she’s not working Michalla enjoys training her very large German Shepard, “Terra”, reading and hiking.
